Q2 2007: Vehicles Generating the Most Leads

What are the vehicles creating the most interest among online car buyers right now? Dealix is perfectly positioned to monitor all kinds of trends in the world of automotive retail, and this is one we follow from time to time. Let’s take a look.

Cars

The Civic, the Camry, and the Corolla have been stellar performers for a long time, so it’s never a surprise to see them listed here. The same goes for the Accord, so even the fact that it cracks the top 10 twice doesn’t raise eyebrows.

What catches our attention is the MINI, coming in at number 7. And the Mustang, not far behind at number 9. Their presence confirms our belief that there are still folks out there who want their cars to be fun.

Trucks

When we look at the “Trucks” category, we’re usually curious about the battle between the domestics and the imports. Viewed one way, it’s 50-50, 5 and 5. But domestics take 4 of the top 5 slots, and 5 of the top 6. Today’s truck remains an American invention, it seems, and the Japanese companies are doing fine but far from achieving any kind of dominance.

SUVs

SUVs are a good counter-example. In many ways, they seem distinctly American, but this is a category where the imports have traditionally dominated - and they continue to do so in Q2. American models claim 4 of 10 slots - as close to 50-50 as you can get - but two of those are number 8 and number 10, both occupied by Jeep.

Minivans

Minivans have come a long way, style-wise, in the last 15 years, but they’re still fundamentally about utility, safety, and reliability. This is probably the most stable of categories, shaken up to a significant degree only when a new model is introduced. Here in the offices of the Dealix Dealer Newsletter, we drive what works best for us and jazz it up with fuzzy dice and chrome wheels.

About the Study
The Dealix Most Requested Vehicles IndexSM is a weighted index based on the number of Internet sales leads per vehicle make and model that is generated from the Dealix Lead Trading PlatformSM over a set time period. The most requested vehicle per submitted leads is given a perfect score of 1000 and all subsequent vehicles are weighted against the leading vehicle. Primary data is derived from the Dealix Lead Trading Platform. This study does not intend to represent data for all vehicle sales leads. This report is brought to you by Dealix Business IntelligenceSM. An asterisk* indicates that the listed vehicle includes several models and/or trim lines that share the same name.
